The Building < 1874 > Dating back to 1874, this building is a true jewel of the past, designed by excellent architects and built by the best available crafts-men of their time. Starting in 2006 we carefully transformed the whole Bel Étage into the first 4-star apartments at the Ring. This wasn't an easy task. Especially as the building is a protected historic monument according to the Federal Monuments Office. Creating these fine serviced luxury apartments took us two years. But Rome wasn't built in a day either ...

The Penthouse < 2006-2007 > A building of historic importance like this can tell interesting stories. Reconstructions here and there. Damages during wartimes. The first elevator in 1918. Outstanding persons moving in and out. The most intensive reconstruction took place from 2006 to 2007. All infrastructure installations were renewed. Five new penthouse apartments were created - all rent for long-term now - and the Bel Étage was completely renewed.

Schottenring < "Scottish Ring" > The Ringstrasse was built in the ending XIXth century. It replaced the former city walls and surrounds the 'Innere Stadt', the Old Town Center. The Ring is Vienna's main sight. The northern part is called Schottenring. It is named after the nearby Schottenstift - founded by Iro-Scottish Benedictine monks in 1155 - recently celebrating its 850th anniversary.

The Location < Schottenring 33 > The Ring is the prime address in Vienna. All 5-star hotels are located at or nearby the Ring, two of them at the Schottenring. Schottenring 33 is the second last building before the Franz-Josefs-Kai. The Donaukanal (Danube Channel, a branch of the Danube) with its wide recreation area and cultural life is just 100 meters away.

The Infrastructure < All Nearby > The subway lines U2 and U4 and several streetcar and bus lines are within a minute walking distance. Any point in Vienna can be reached easily by public transportation. The nearby infrastructure couldn't be better and includes bakeries, cafés, supermarkets, pharmacies, banks, perfumeries, fitness clubs, tobacco shops, restaurants, taxi stands, ... just to mention a few.

The Building < History > The building's history starts on May 2nd 1874 when the "Wiener Bau Aktien-Gesellschaft" applied for building permission for two - basically identical - buildings at Schottenring 31 and 33. Two months later the building permissions were issued and construction works started.

The Building < Construction Plan > This plan shows the original hand drawn and colorized cross section of the two highest floors of the building. The representative rooms are facing to the Ring, shown here to the left. The room height is about 4 meters. The most exclusive and highest rooms are on the first floor - also named Bel Étage: easy to reach without elevator and most luxuriously endowed.

Built < Not Only > On Sand This plan from 1874 shows a part of the building's basement and cellar. The foundation is - literally - built on sand. To be precise: on the sediments of the Danube River. Thus - like in Venice - the building is constructed on closely spaced wood piles.

The View < Breathtaking > This view from the very top of Schottenring 33 shows the breathtaking architecture of the Schottenring with its four lanes of trees and the Palais Hansen just opposite. Also nearby: the Stock Exchange, the Hilton Plaza and Hotel De France, the Japanese Embassy, the State Police Command, the Liechtenstein Museum, the University of Vienna. And the Café Schottenring.

The Street Door < Floodlighted > The entrance door is made of massive wood and measures seven meters in height. "Impressive!" you might say. In 2007 all four lanes of candelabers along the Ringstrasse were renewed by the City of Vienna - in the old design of gas lamps from 1899. Applying energy saving lamps inside. Now the Ring is the brightest illuminated boulevard in Vienna. When approaching the front door additional automatic lights will switch on and floodlight the whole entrance area even brighter. The front door is generally closed. Unlock the door by simply entering a digital security code.

|
Your Name < At The Front Door > If requested we can easily enter your name into the digital intercom system at the front door. Making it easy for your friends to find you and your apartment. As well as to impress your business friends. Last but not less important: each apartment has its own private postal address and a key-locked post box inside the building.

The Stucco Ceiling < Remarkable > The picture to the left shows a detail of the recently renovated original stucco ceiling in the public staircase at Schottenring 33. This ceiling is also being mentioned as remarkable in the Dehio Handbook of German Art History, published by the Austrian Federal Monuments Office: "Bemerkenswerte Stuck- Kassettendecke, Konsolen- und Rosettenplafonds."

|
|

|
|
The Entrance Area < Terrazzo > The floor of the entrance area is not less impressive. Most parts of the original Terrazzo floor - which is basically a mosaic of small marble chips - are still in perfect condition.

The Staircase < Original > Many staircases of buildings along the Ring are simply impressive. So is the one at Schottenring 33 which measures 7.0 by 5.0 meters in width and 31.0 meters in height. It has been originally renovated in 2007. We just added modern LED lights alongside the stairs. This looks brilliant. And you can find your way even in the dark as this stair light is working 24/7 a week. Your security is important for us.

The Third Elevator < 2007 > A new spacious elevator - a modern construction of steel and security glass - was built into the center of the staircase in 2007. Originally, the building had no electric elevator. The first elevator was implemented in 1915, with a huge electric motor being required in the cellar. Besides being slow, this elevator required a counterweight outside of the building. The second elevator was built 1964 but did not meet today's security requirements anymore. By taking a few stairs you will reach the third elevator being implemented into this building. Now six persons can be lifted up securely, quietly and fast.

|
The Stairs < Some Walk > However, most likely you will continue climbing up the stairs just for enjoyment of the originally renovated staircase. The photo to the left shows a detail of the handrails which are made of cast iron. Often designed just for one building and thus being absolutely unique. This handrail is also mentioned as being remarkable in the Dehio Handbook of the Federal Monuments Office.

The Bel Ètage < Welcome ! > On the first floor - about 8 meters above ground - you have reached the 'Bel Étage'. Take the left entrance to the entry hall of apartments N°1, 2, 3 and 8 or the opposite entrance to apartments N°4, 5, 6 and 7. All apartments are unique. Please use the menu for detailed photos of each apartment. But independently from which apartment you select - you will never forget your stay here in Vienna. That's for sure!
